The Michigan State Spartans will face the DePaul Blue Demons in the first round of the PK80 Tournament instead of the Georgetown Hoyas.

The Michigan State Spartans will face a different Big East team than originally thought in the 2017 PK80 Tournament, as the DePaul Blue Demons will replace the Georgetown Hoyas. Georgetown, who are welcoming a new coach in Patrick Ewing (yes, he is that Patrick Ewing), are currently rebuilding and would have been a slightly better matchup for Michigan State.

The Spartans should still beat DePaul easily, but do not be surprised if this game is a bit too close for comfort for many fans who are used to seeing the Blue Demons as one of the worst High-Major teams in college basketball.

The PK80 features other teams such as the North Carolina Tar Heels, Portland Pilots, Arkansas Razorbacks, Oklahoma Sooners, Connecticut Huskies, and Oregon Ducks. Michigan State will face the winner or loser of the UConn and Oregon matchup based on their results against DePaul.

Looking at the bracket, Michigan State should cruise by the Blue Demons and then be the favorite to make it to the final and face North Carolina. Oregon, UConn, and Oklahoma could have something to say about that, but a UNC versus MSU final is the most likely outcome.

Expect a great season from the Spartans no matter what happens in the PK80 and, if things go as planned, do not be surprised to see this team make it to the Final Four at the end of the season.
