Pac-12 Basketball: Who is the top 2017 recruit for every team?
By Bryan Mauro
Colorado
Tad Boyle has done a really good job with the Buffalos overall. When Colorado joined the Pac-12, I figured there would be some sort of regression and it would take them awhile to be competitive because the competition was just to great. The exact opposite has happened. Colorado is one of the better teams every year in this deep league and are a perennial NCAA Tournament team. Coach Boyle has taken the altitude advantage at Colorado and run with it, as Colorado still remains one of the toughest arenas to win in, not only in the Pac-12 but in all of college basketball
D’Shawn Schwartz- D’Shawn is a wing with a full arsenal of offense at his disposal. He is great at creating his own shot and can score at all three levels. He can shoot threes, pull up for mid range jump shots, and score in the post. His biggest strength appears to be the fact that he can create something out of nothing using a nifty spin move or a nice ball fake. He has quick feet and is a good ball handler so backing his defender off is not a problem. In college the players are a little faster and a little smarter, so he will need to pick and choose when he ball fakes and spins or the ball could get stolen and lead to easy baskets for the opposing team.
Oregon
Fresh off of his first Final Four appearance, Dana Altman looks poised to have the Ducks in a position to compete for the top spot in the league year after year. The Ducks are quickly becoming one of the teams like Kansas, Duke, and North Carolina that never rebuild and instead just seem to reload. Coach Altman lost a lot of key pieces to the Draft and graduation at the end of last year but has a nice crop of returning players as well as some top freshmen.
Troy Brown Jr.- Troy is a complete player and, as a five-star recruit, is one of the best players in the entire nation. Troy is a really good athlete and can make things happen on the offensive end. The Ducks are going to look for a player to run their offense through now Dylan Brooks has moved on to the NBA. Troy is a great shooter from deep, can get to the rim, and has a nice floater from the mid range. He is the type of player that Altman can lean on to get clutch buckets late in games. Troy may give the NBA a shot next year, but the Ducks have a pretty good track record of players staying for a few years.
