Three-star 2018 power forward Tamell Pearson has committed to the UAB Blazers.

The UAB Blazers have yet to begin the 2017-18 season but are already securing big time commitments, as Class of 2018 three-star recruit Tamell Pearson has announced his commitment to the school.

The 6’9, 200-pound power forward played his high school basketball in Chicago and was highly sought after by mid-majors across the country.

The Blazers are picked by many to take a big step forward in Conference USA this season. While I do not believe that they will win the conference, I do believe that the Blazers have what it takes to win the conference tournament and secure the automatic qualifier berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The worst thing about Conference USA basketball is that only one team usually makes it to the Big Dance, even though several are deserving. C-USA is one of the most underrated mid-major conferences in college basketball, and we are seeing that with big NCAA Tournament wins by teams like UAB and Middle Tennessee State.

While Middle Tennessee State has been the Cinderella of the last few NCAA Tournaments knocking off the Michigan State Spartans and Minnesota Golden Gophers, UAB was the first C-USA team to start turning heads with their upset victory over Iowa State in 2015.

UAB is a great basketball program, and the addition or Pearson is a good sign for things to come for the Blazers. Keep an eye on this team moving forward, because they should be near the top of C-USA standings for — at least — the next few seasons.
