Former SMU Mustangs’ player and North Texas Mean Green transfer Keith Frazier has decided to play for the UTEP Miners next season.

Keith Frazier averaged 8.0 points per game and 3.5 points per game over just 18.8 minutes per game for the North Texas Mean Green last season, but has decided to transfer elsewhere in the state to the UTEP Miners for the upcoming 2017-18 college basketball season.

Frazier, who you might know from the plethora of articles written about his journey from the academic scandal at SMU to dropping out of college altogether, was expected to be a phenomenal college player and potential NBA prospect before finding himself at the center of the aforementioned scandal.

Since he left the Mustangs, he transferred to the North Texas Mean Green, where he played one season. Now, as reported by Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports, he will be taking his talents to the UTEP Miners. As a grad transfer, he will be immediately eligible and bring a much-needed scoring presence to a quietly talented UTEP team.

The strangest thing to me about this whole situation is that Frazier is transferring to a school within the same conference. North Texas will play UTEP twice next season, including their Conference USA opening game and Conference USA closing game.

The Mean Green are not supposed to be in contention in C-USA next season, but, if by some miracle, UTEP and North Texas are fighting for C-USA Tournament seeding this could be one of the most interesting stories in college basketball come March.
