WAC Basketball: Who is the star player on each team in 2017-18?
University of Missouri at Kansas City – SO Isaiah Ross
Kansas City has been fiddling with the middle of this conference since this group of teams has banded together. The good news is that this season will likely end that. The bad news is that the Kangeroos will most likely be traveling in the opposite direction.
As the only school that will lose their top three scorers, UMKC will be going through a rebuilding phase. The biggest loss will be LaVell Boyd, who averaged almost 18 a game and helped the team lead the conference in three-point shooting percentage.
Their efficiency from deep helped propel the team to a top half finish, despite struggling on defense. The team finished next to last in scoring defense and in the bottom of several important categories.
To start off the rebuild will be the only underclassmen on the list Isaiah Moss. In his first year, he put up respectable numbers off the bench, playing into his role just fine. In the 18 minutes he played a night, he averaged roughly eight points and nearly four rebounds.
Out of all the players on this list, this player may be the least likely to win conference player of the year. He will be crucial in the Kangeroos avoiding the bottom this year. Then, eventually making an effort to make it back towards the top in the future.
