The Syracuse Orange received their first commitment from the Class of 2018, as three-star shooting guard Brycen Goodine committed to Jim Boeheim and Co.

Jim Boeheim is already out recruiting for the future of Syracuse Basketball, as the 2017-18 season has yet to begin and he has already received a commitment from three-star, Class of 2019 recruit Brycen Goodine.

Goodine, who will be the Orange’s first committed recruit from the Class of 2019, is ranked as the No. 131 player from the Class of 2019 by Rivals and No. 189 by 247 Sports. The 6’4, 170-pound shooting guard has room to climb up those rankings, and I have a feeling that he finds himself much closer to a four-star recruit down the road.

Syracuse, who is expected to contend for an NCAA Tournament spot once again this season, was deservedly left out of the 2018 NCAA Tournament and barely snuck into the 2017 NCAA Tournament – and some would say undeservedly so.

Because of this, The Orange need to step it up in 2017-18 so that they are not sweating on Selection Sunday. This team belongs in the NCAA Tournament year-in and year-out, but they have to earn it. Their fantastic coaching, style, and match-up problems usually mean that once they make it into the Big Dance they go a bit further than expected.

The addition of Goodine this early on is a good sign for the Orange, as they are clearly looking towards the future, now. If Goodine is able to climb up the recruiting rankings as many expect, this might be looked back on as a phenomenal get for the Orange.
