The Ole Miss Rebels received a commitment from a three-star shooting guard from the Class of 2018, Serrel Smith.

The 2017-18 college basketball season has yet to begin, but Andy Kennedy and the Ole Miss Rebels are already on the recruiting trail for next season, as three-star, Class of 2018 recruit Serrel Smith has officially committed to the Rebels.

A 6’3, 170-pound combo-guard out of St. Petersburg, Florida, Smith is ranked as the No. 252 player in the Class of 2018 by 247 Sports and is currently unranked by Rivals. He received offers from teams all across the country, but only had an official visit with the Wichita State Shockers in August before visiting the Rebels last week on September 9th.

The 2017 class was far weaker than it looked like just a few months ago, as highly-coveted four-star recruit JaMarko Pickett decided to switch his commitment at the last minute. The 6’9, 215-pound power forward from Virginia chose to go to the Georgetown Hoyas rather than Ole Miss, and it will leave a large hole in the guard-heavy Ole Miss roster.

However, the arrival of Devontae Shuler, who is a four-star, Class of 2017 shooting guard out of Oak Hill Academy, means that this team will be ready to rebuild once the current platoon of talented guards moves on. The future of the Rebels looks bright, especially if they continue to pick up guys like Smith.

Kennedy always seems to have this Ole Miss team ready to compete in the SEC, and the addition of Smith to the Class of 2018 is a sign that things are still going well for the program.
