The Houston Cougars received a huge commitment from four-star Class of 2018 shooting guard Nate Hinton.

Class of 2018 shooting guard Nate Hinton has officially committed to the Houston Cougars, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.

Hinton is considered to be a three-star recruit by 247 Sports in the Class of 2018 and the No. 125 player overall. Rivals has him listed as the No. 4 player in the state of North Carolina and a four-star recruit. The site also ranks Hinton as the No. 115 player in the country. I personally believe he’ll climb a bit up the rankings on 247 Sports and become a four-star recruit across the board by the time the 2018-19 season swings around.

The 6’4, 180-pound shooting guard will be a great addition to a Houston team that is usually extremely competitive. The Cougars, who play in the American Athletic Conference, seem to always be just one step away from being a consistent NCAA Tournament team.

With the arrival of the Wichita State Shockers into the AAC, things are going to get more difficult. Being able to recruit players like Hinton will go a long way in assuring the Cougars’ place as a competitor in conference.

Jon Rothstein pointed out that Hinton would be joining UMass transfer Dejon Jarreau, making Houston a team to watch heading into the 2018-19 season.

This season, Houston will likely struggle to keep up with the top of the AAC. However, the future looks bright for the Cougars, and we could see flashes of that as early as next season.
