Oklahoma State Basketball: Cowboys grab recruit Antwann Jones
By Taylor Sturm
The Oklahoma State Cowboys picked up a commitment from a highly-touted recruit in four-star, Class of 2018 shooting guard Antwann Jones.
The 2017-18 college basketball season has yet to begin, and the newly appointed head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Mike Boynton, is already picking up top commitments for the 2018-19 season, as four-star, Class of 2018 recruit Antwann Jones has committed to the program.
The 6’6, 210-pound shooting guard is rated as a four-star recruit and No. 67 player in the Class of 2018 by 247 Sports, as well as a four-star recruit and No. 96 player in the Class of 2018 by Rivals.
Jones, who is originally from Orlando, Florida, received interest from teams all across the South, especially in the SEC and Big 12. The Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs both offered Jones out of the Big 12, and the Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Texas A&M Aggies did so out of the SEC.
In fact, it is a huge win for Oklahoma State to go down to SEC and ACC country and pick-up a huge commitment from a four-star recruit like Jones. It is not as if Jones was a three-star recruit who fell through the cracks – a lot of teams wanted this shooting guard.
What’s even more impressive is that this was a move by a first-year head coach and his staff. Boynton could have this team back on track far sooner than expected.
