The Texas Tech Red Raiders received great news, as three-star, Class of 2018 recruit Kyler Edwards committed to the program.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have pulled off some fantastic upsets in the Big 12 over the last few seasons, largely in part to their ability to recruit talented but under-heralded recruits from Texas and the surrounding areas.

The Red Raiders snagged another great Texas-based recruit, as three-star, Class of 2018 shooting guard Kyler Edwards committed to the program.

Edwards, who is from Arlington, is one of the top five players in Texas according to 247 Sports. A consistent three-star recruit across the other recruiting sites as well, he should be a four-year player with the Red Raiders and continue to get better with more experience.

The 6’5, 195-pound shooting guard was recruited heavily across the South and Midwest, and even received scholarship offers from other Big 12 programs the Iowa State Cyclones and Oklahoma State Cowboys.

His decision to choose Texas Tech is a bit interesting, however, as he visited the SMU Mustangs and it was widely assumed that he would end up going there. It could be a saga to keep an eye on, as verbal commits long in advance sometimes do not end up sticking.

No matter what happens, Edwards has what it takes to be a key player on a team like Texas Tech. His scoring ability is astounding and, with some coaching, he could end up being one of the better scorers in the Big 12.

Keep an eye on this moving forward, as it seems strange that all the signs pointed to SMU leading up to his decision to go to Texas Tech.
