Three-star, Class of 2018 recruit Amadou Sow has chosen to play college basketball at UC Santa Barbara.

UC Santa Barbara received great news, as the school received a commitment from Class of 2018 recruit Amadou Sow.

Sow, a 6’9, 225-pound power forward who played at Prolific Prep, is listed as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports and is unranked by Rivals and Scout.

However, Sow showed his worth as he helped lead the Oakland Soldiers as they won the Peach Jam, and likely got onto the radar of teams like UCSB as part of that run. Many believed he would end up somewhere in a bigger conference than the Big West, but I think UCSB is the perfect fit for the power forward.

You can watch his highlight video below:

UCSB finished dead last in the Big West standings last season. A dismal 4-12 conference record coupled with a 6-22 overall record does not bode well for the future of this program.

However, the addition of a player like Sow could see things change for the team sooner rather than later, as he has the potential to dominate the Big West. A clear, four-year player, Sow might not make a huge splash as a freshman, but, as soon as he gets going, he will be a name to hear for years to come.

Remember, in one-bid leagues like the Big West, oftentimes it is one player who can make the difference in the conference tournament and lead a team to the NCAA Tournament. Sow can be that player for UCSB.
