The Virginia Tech Hokies announced the transfer of Khadim Sy just a short time ago, and he has already decided where he will spend the 2017-18 college basketball season.

Khadim Sy played in 32 games for the Virginia Tech Hokies last season as a freshman, averaging just four points and just over two rebounds per game over 11.4 minutes per game.

However, he decided to transfer away from Buzz Williams and the Hokies’ program just last week and has already chosen where he would transfer to for the 2017-18 college basketball season.

Sy has decided to spend the 2017-18 college basketball season playing at Tallahassee Community College. This news was first reported Jon Rothstein via FanRag Sports.

While not a starter, Sy’s departure is a major concern for a program that went into the 2017-18 season with tons of momentum. Virginia Tech had what it takes to compete in the ACC and be a lock for the 2018 NCAA Tournament, but the loss of Sy and the injury to Ty Outlaw puts that in serious jeopardy.

I do believe that Virginia Tech still finishes in the top half of the ACC and makes the 2018 NCAA Tournament, but it seems more and more unlikely that the Hokies stand a chance at competing with the top teams in the conference.

Williams’ team is extremely deep and had always had the “next man up” mentality, so it will be interesting to see how the team adjusts to these losses.

Next: Outlaw hurt, Sy gone, is it time for Hokies to panic?

Hopefully, Sy made the right decision by transferring. With two years of NCAA eligibility remaining, we will see him again in college basketball.
