Wake Forest adds another talented recruit to their 2018 class in Isaiah Mucius. What skills does Mucius bring to the table and what will be his future impact? What is next for Wake’s 2018 class?

Wake Forest landed Isaiah Mucius, a springy combo forward with tremendous upside, from Brewster Academy and the PSA Cardinals AAU program. Mucius is ranked as the 82nd overall prospect by Rivals and should make an immediate impact for the Demon Deacons.

The 6’8’’ forward is super athletic and poses a match-up nightmare for opposing power forwards. Mucius excels at using his athleticism to get to the rim where he is a strong finisher. He also is an excellent rebounder due to his length and activity on the boards. Overall, Mucius should be a perfect fit in the Wake Forest lineup and could factor into the rotation from the get-go.

Mucius also considered Temple, UConn, Rutgers, and Xavier according to Adam Zagoria from Zagsblog. He visited Xavier most recently (September 9th) and the Musketeers seemed to be Wake’s biggest competition. Xavier also had playing time to offer at both the three and the four, but Mucius chose to join a potential monster recruiting class at Wake Forest.

Joining Mucius in the 2018 class are five-star wing Jaylen Hoard and three-star guard Sharone Wright. Hoard is a skilled 6’8’’ wing who has a sweet shooting stroke and has great size for his position. He is more of a smooth athlete than an explosive one, but he can still play above the rim for lobs and put-backs. Wright is a 6’5’’ combo guard who has great potential and should be a solid long-term piece.

These players will combine with 2017 standouts Chaundee Brown and Olivier Sarr to form an extremely promising young core of players. If Wake can find a high-level replacement for Bryant Crawford in the class of 2018, they will have a four or five-star recruit at every position.

Accumulating this many quality players will only help the Demon Deacons. If these talented 2017 and 2018 recruits are still with the team as upperclassmen, Wake Forest could compete for an ACC title in a few seasons.

Their young core is that good.

Wake Forest is not finished with their 2018 class, either. As mentioned above, the Demon Deacons need to find a replacement for Bryant Crawford since he will be a senior when the 2018 recruits are freshmen. Ayo Dosunmu and Mike Devoe are two highly ranked guards who are considering Wake Forest and either player would be a perfect fit in their young core.

Mike Devoe visited Wake Forest this past weekend (September 15th) and seems like a realistic option. While the 247 Crystal Ball predicts Devoe to go to Florida, the Gators have many other guard targets. Devon Dotson, Andrew Nembhard, David Duke, Elijah Weaver, and Noah Locke are all heavily considering Florida and could push Devoe to Wake Forest. Dosunmu is ranked much higher than Devoe but also seems less likely to commit.

Next: Who are the stars on each ACC team?

No matter who Wake Forest adds to their 2018 class, the Demon Deacons are in great shape for the future. This talented core will have Wake finishing towards the top of the ACC in a few short years.
