College Basketball: 5 mid-majors tremendously impacted by transfers
3. St. Louis Billikens
The Billikens have had a tough run recently, finishing in the bottom of the Atlantic 10 the past few years. After a recent coaching change, former Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford was brought in to bring a different caliber of players to the program.
With perennial contenders Dayton and VCU in the mix, Ford knew he had to go a different route (opposed to recruiting) to get the players he needs to compete. Knowing they were in a complete rebuild, St. Louis has taken their lumps the past couple of seasons while stockpiling talent. Here are some of the high-major players looking to take the Billikens up the A-10 ladder:
D.J. Foreman, Rutgers (must sit out season)
Ty Graves, Boston College (must sit out one semester)
Javon Bess, Michigan State
Adonys Henriquez, Central Florida
Bess and Henriquez are two players who could have big years in expanded roles. Combined with a couple of top-100 recruits in Jordan Goodwin and Hassan French looking to make immediate contributions this upcoming year, St. Louis could climb to the top half of the conference.
Look for the team to possibly challenge for the A-10 title if Coach Ford can continue this combination of big-time recruits along with big-time transfers.
