For the second time in as many days, Chris Holtmann picks up a much-needed recruit. This time, he’s stocking up in the guard position with the pick-up of Duane Washington Jr.

Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Duane Washington Jr. transferred to Los Angeles for his senior year of high school. He lived there with his uncle, who happened to be five-time NBA Champion and former coach of the Knicks, Derek Fisher.

Besides the Buckeyes, Duane received 13 offers, including west coast schools like UCLA and Oregon and those from his original home, Michigan.

The 6’3, 190-pound guard is a three-star prospect ranked in the top 300, according to 247sports.

Washington Jr. becomes the second 2018 commit along with four-star forward Jaedon LeDee. Ohio State has had to restart their recruiting board after all of former coach Thad Matta’s recruits decommitted.

And, with Kam Williams in his senior season and C.J. Jackson the only guard left on the roster guaranteed playing time, there’s a great chance that the three-star commit will come into immediate playing opportunities.

Chris Holtmann has started off the 2018 recruiting class well, getting two guys with no Ohio ties, but it will be important to dip the toes back into the Midwest and start competing for those prospects as well. With Indiana coming in with a new head coach and schools such as Butler and even Depaul starting to make waves, it’s important to get the local fish in the pond.

Nevertheless, this has been a very important couple of days for the future of the Buckeyes’ program. With plenty of spots left, let’s see who’s the next prospects to go to Ohio State.
