Head coach Bill Self has added a major recruit for his recruiting class of 2018. Kansas basketball will welcome David McCormack with open arms.
After snagging top-50 recruit Silvio De Sousa earlier in this recruiting process, Kansas basketball has added their second recruit for the class of 2018. David McCormack is a 6’9″, 290-pound big man with tons of potential. By 247Sports Composite ranking, McCormack is rated as a four-star prospect at No. 39 in the class.
Bill Self has developed very strong recruiting classes in the past and this looks like another one in the making. In each of the last seven recruiting seasons, Self has signed at least two top-100 players to join the Rock Chalk, Jayhawk nation. He has already accomplished that feat with this class and they will have immediate impacts on the team in 2018-19.
Before choosing to attend Kansas, McCormack had Xavier, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Duke, and NC State also listed in his final six teams. Several other top programs were interested in the play of McCormack as well.
McCormack took an unofficial visit to campus on Aug. 22 and his recruitment has been led by Kansas assistant coach Jerrance Howard. As reported by D1vision, McCormack had this to say about his visit to Kansas:
"“It’s a great environment. I really enjoyed myself there (KU). They told me how they’re likely losing their top six guys. Billy (Preston) will be gone, Devonté (Graham) will be gone, so I’ll be able to play inside and out. They’ll be able to take advantage of what I can do.”"
Rated as the No. 3 center in the class of 2018, McCormack is expected to come in and have a major role cut out for him at Kansas. Playing for Oak Hill Academy, McCormack emerged as an elite player who can run the floor extremely well for his size. He will fit extremely well with the Kansas system and will form a partner-in-crime in the frontcourt for Self.
With McCormack and De Sousa in tow, the Kansas frontcourt in 2018-19 looks to potentially be one of the best of the country. They will be young, sure, but Self has worked with youth before and pulled together some outstanding seasons. These are two of the best big men in the entire class of 2018 and will provide some serious punch once they arrive on campus.
If Self is able to complete this recruiting class with a top guard or two, watch out for the Jayhawks to once again be a national title contender next season. As of right now, No. 5 ranked recruit Romeo Langford is one of the top targets for Kansas. In addition, No. 16 guard Quentin Grimes is on the radar for Coach Self’s staff.
These additions would fill out the potential backcourt to go along with one of the most talented frontcourts in the entire country for Kansas.

With the commitment from David McCormack, Kansas has solidified their future frontcourt. He is another major recruit for Bill Self, who is one of the best coaches in the country. Kansas has a tremendous basketball tradition and has won the NCAA Tournament as recently as 2008. Could another banner be raised in “The Phog” soon?
