OK State Basketball: How is Lamont Evans involved in FBI investigation?
By Taylor Sturm
Oklahoma State’s Lamont Evans was one of the four assistant coaches who was charged in an ongoing FBI investigation in college basketball. Here is everything we know so far.
Lamont Evans, who is an assistant coach on the staff of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, has been reportedly charged as a part of an FBI investigation into corruption and fraud in college basketball.
The documents that have been available reveal that Evans has been charged with conspiracy to commit bribery and solicitation of bribes and gratuities by an agent of a federally funded organization. The document goes on to report these bribes occurring more than once.
Most of the charges stem from companies like Adidas allegedly bribing assistant coaches and players as a way to maintain brand loyalty once the player heads off to the NBA.
This is not a good look for Oklahoma State or any team that has had prior association with Evans, as well.
Prior to his move to the Cowboys, Evans was on the staff with Frank Martin and the South Carolina Gamecocks. This has to be worrying for the Gamecocks, who are just coming off of a fantastic season with a Final Four appearance.
He was also a member of Martin’s staff before Martin moved from the Kansas State Wildcats to South Carolina. While it’s early, it is likely that the NCAA conducts their own investigation in the future and South Carolina could be in for some trouble.
