USC Basketball: How is Tony Bland involved in FBI investigation?

One of the coaches implicated in the massive fraud and corruption based FBI investigation into college basketball is Tony Bland of the USC Trojans.

The biggest story in the sports world right now is the result of an investigation into fraud and corruption in college basketball, and four assistant coaches were charged as part of the investigation, including Tony Bland of the USC Trojans.

Bland, who was a former player for the Syracuse Orange, was charged late on Monday as one of those who accepted bribes in order to influence a player to make specified decisions.

Specifically, the charges state that Bland met in Las Vegas with an undercover FBI agent among others and was given 1$3,000 in order to help influence a “rising freshman and sophomore” to choose a specific agency.

In addition to these charges, Bland also reportedly was a part of getting $9,000 to the families of student-athletes.

USC is expected to be one of the best teams in the country this season and, although I do not expect something like this to affect the way in which the team plays, there could be more consequences for the teams, coaches, and players involved down the road.

We’ve been hearing about stories like this for years, but not had confirmation or charges brought up until now. Something tells me that this could be the biggest story in sports for a while.
