Iowa State basketball is currently rolling on the recruiting trail. George Conditt has become the third Cyclone commit in three weeks.

First, Iowa State basketball stole Zion Griffin from Kansas. Then, they continued their success in Wisconsin with Tyrese Halliburton. Now, the team can add Chicago native George Conditt among their 2018 commitments. The 6’10”, 200-pound forward announced his decision on Oct. 2 via Twitter.

With Conditt’s verbal commitment, Iowa State is now ranked 28th on 247’s class rankings. ISU held off late pushes from Illinois and New Mexico to secure the son of a former Cyclone football player.

This is another big grab for Coach Steve Prohm and his staff and not just because Conditt has some serious Big 12 size. Iowa State will graduate two forwards this coming spring, so their newest big man could make an immediate impact alongside Solomon Young, Cameron Lard and Nebraska transfer Michael Jacobson.

ISU’s existing frontcourt is very heavy on rebounding and rim production while being light on offensive versatility. Previous squads have done very well relying on outside shooting and multi-skilled assets.

Hopefully, Conditt can turn into a taller version of former great (and current NBA reserve) Georges Niang. That would allow the team to continue its trend of using four guys who can shoot the ball from deep. Having a stretch forward could also end up giving dynamic athletes like Lindell Wigginton and Terrance Lewis more freedom to slash inside.

Conditt will certainly play a role in Ames when he joins the program. He has size and solid ratings playing in the competitive Chicago basketball scene. Coach Prohm has crushed recruiting this fall and Conditt only adds to the impressive streak. Keep an eye on if he reels in Memphis youth Tyler Harris or Windy City wing Talen Horton-Tucker.
