Atlantic 10 Basketball: 2017-18 players to watch on each team
By Bryan Mauro
Atlantic 10 basketball has featured several players that have emerged as stars in college hoops. Who will be the next player to breakout on the national stage?
The Atlantic 10 conference isn’t considered one of the Power-5 conferences, but the Atlantic 10 is on par with the larger conferences in talent. The conference almost always receives multiple bids to the NCAA Tournament. The bids the conference gets are not just courtesy bids either. These bids are earned and the Atlantic 10 teams are those that no one wants to see on their side of the bracket.
The Atlantic 10 has some popular names in the world of college basketball. Dayton, VCU, and Davidson are teams who are always pesky and always seem to compete at the highest level. The teams in this league also possess some of the best young coaches in the entire NCAA. Shaka Smart, Archie Miller, and John Calipari have all coached at Atlantic 10 schools early on in their careers. Those coaches now coach at very prominent universities in Texas, Indiana, and Kentucky.
The Atlantic 10 has put many key players in the NBA. Stephen Curry, Delonte West, Jameer Nelson, Andrew Nicholson, and Lamar Odom are just a few of the household names from the NBA to play for Atlantic 10 teams. Odom and Curry played key roles for their teams in the NCAA Tournament as well. West and Nelson helped lead the St. Joseph Hawks to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament and a 30-2 record in 2003-04. Will the following players help the Atlantic 10 Conference further cement their name in college basketball history?
