2018 JUCO SG Darius Allen announced that he would play for the Baylor Bears and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Last season, the Baylor Bears finished with an impressive 27-8 record that included a trip to the Sweet 16 where they would lose to the Final Four-bound South Carolina Gamecocks, and head into next season with high expectations.

You can check out our in-depth preview of the Bears’ upcoming 2017-18 campaign here, but the Bears are already focusing on the 2018-19 season as they added a JUCO transfer from Palm Beach State College in Darius Allen.

Allen is a 6’5, 185-pound shooting guard who should fit in well on this Baylor team. Last season, Allen averaged 10.2 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game in 31 games played for Palm Beach State. He has two years of eligibility remaining, so expect him to earn solid minutes almost immediately whether it’s from a bench role or a starting spot.

Allen will be joined by four-star small forward Matthew Mayer and 6’0, 150-pound point guard Jeremiah Gambrell in the Bears’ 2018 class so far and helps round out the currently No. 65 ranked recruiting class by 247 Sports. That being said, I have a feeling this team grabs a few more players and sneaks up the rankings once we get closer to the 2018-19 season.

Next: Who is the star player for each team in the Big 12?

The Bears are set up to compete in the Big 12 once again and attempt to secure an NCAA Tournament berth, but the addition of players like Allen are a great sign for the future of this consistently good college basketball program.
