Rick Pitino did a recent interview with Jay Bilas for ESPN that aired Wednesday night. It accomplished absolutely nothing.

When the news broke that former Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino was going to talk about the recent FBI investigation on TV, I was fairly intrigued as to what he was going to say. This happens all the time with disgraced politicians, celebrities, and any other highly known figures in a PR attempt to gain sympathy.

Here’s the full interview so you can watch for yourselves, as well as some key points I have about the whole thing:

Constant side-stepping of questions

Good job overall by Jay Bilas asking very questions that basically needed a short and concise answer. The very first question of whether or not he knew of the $100,000 payment to the recruit, wasn’t answered with a simple no, but him bringing up a lie detector test. We have no clue of how the test was done, its validity, or its effectiveness. There’s a reason it’s inadmissible in court and bringing that up rather than just saying “no” was weird.

Contradictions with Adidas

This was just a lie that all basketball fans know. He first said that not only that the shoe company is not involved much with the program, but that he didn’t think they wanted to. You mean that the same company that signed a 10 year $160 million deal with the University had no intentions of getting involved?

His next statement then explained how Adidas and their AAU affiliates are in constant contact with players that went to Louisville like Donavan Mitchell and VJ King.
