Projected Starters:
Jessie Govan- Junior
Govan has clogged up the lane and been the primary big man for Georgetown for the last two years. Govan is a talented, do everything scorer who Ewing is going to have to lean on a little bit more this year with the departure of LJ Peak and Rodney Pryor who were the primary scoring options a year ago. It still remains to be seen how Ewing will utilize his big men. Will he let Govan shoot threes? He shot 34 of them last year and made them at a 38% clip. Ewing is also going to look to Govan to be a key rebounder on this team. Last year, Govan hauled in five rebounds a game. Govan will need to take a big leap in scoring and rebounding if Georgetown wants to be successful this year.
Marcus Derrickson- Junior
Derrickson, much like Gova,n is going to be looked to as a leader, as well a prime scoring option for coach Ewing. Derrickson is now going to be able to have full reign of the Power Forward spot as the previous players have either graduated or transferred. It will be intriguing to see how Derrickson handles his new role and expanded minutes. Derrickson is a good three-point shooter and should be able to shoot three-pointers at a better percentage than he did a year ago. One thing that everyone hopes Derrickson will do more of is get fouled. A guy who plays the position that Derrickson does should get fouled more, but Derrickson plays a different style than a lot of forwards. Derrickson shot free throws at 86% last year, but he only took 49 total free throws. That number will have to improve.
Jagan Mosely- Sophomore
Mosely played a lot of minutes for Georgetown last year and struggled to ever find his rhythm. Mosely will improve on his rough freshman year. Mosely needs to improve his three-point shooting more than anyone on this team. He was dreadful from downtown a year ago. Mosely will be the starting point guard on this team again, and, much like the players we have discussed, if Georgetown wants to be successful it all starts with Mosely.
Jonathon Mulmore- Senior
Mulmore is going to be relied on to provide some senior leadership. Mulmore was an elite scorer at Alleghany Junior College before coming to Georgetown. Ewing is going to try and channel that scoring that disappeared last year for Mulmore. At 6’5” Mulmore is a tall, lengthy guard who can really affect a team on defense. The only senior on the team who played significant minutes last year, Mulmore will be on the floor a lot for this very young team.
Jamarko Pickett- Freshman
When Ewing took the job his first order of business was to keep the DC kids home and bring them to Georgetown. Pickett did just that and committed to Ewing over Maryland. The fact that Ewing was able to secure a commitment from a DC prospect, over another rival in Maryland, was just icing on the cake and the needed reassurance for Ewing that he is going to make this work. Pickett is a great player for Ewing to build around as he starts his tenure at Georgetown. Pickett is a skilled wing and a good shooter and rebounder. He won’t be asked to carry a huge scoring load or be brought along too fast, bu,t if he does decide to score and rebound, Ewing will take it.
