Coming into a complete rebuild, former VCU coach Will Wade has already hit a home run with one top recruit. The addition of top 100 Darius Days is adding more points to the scoreboard.

The announcement of Darius Days’ intentions to play for the LSU Tigers is welcome news for Wade and the coaching staff. Days, who made his decision on his birthday, is the third top 100 player set to come to Baton Rouge for 2018.

Ranked by 247 Sports Composite as the No. 65 best player, the 6’7 forward brings both size and an impressive shooting touch. His ability to play the wing will fit well with Nazreon Reid, the five-star top player who committed a month earlier.

It was by no means a slam dunk he would even go to LSU. With the FBI investigation and aftermath taking Louisville out of the picture, it came down to the Tigers and North Carolina. Just a week ago many experts had the Tar Heels in the lead.

One reason as to why LSU may have ultimately won out is due to the difference in rosters. North Carolina just came off of a National Championship and consistently brings in great players who stay three to four years. Whereas right now the Tigers have constructed this season’s roster a with JUCO and grad transfers. With former Oregon transfer Kavell Bigby-Williams set to leave, there are immediate opportunities for playing time for a guy like Days.

It’s clear why Wade left VCU, as there was little chance he could recruit the type of athletes he’s getting now when he was with the Rams. With four-star guard Ja’Vonte Smart joining the fray next season as well, the Tigers might be getting out of the basement of the SEC sooner than expected.
