USC Basketball has been bringing in top recruits left and right recently. With Elijah Weaver, add another one to the talented group of incoming Trojans.

From the moment head coach Andy Enfield arrived in Los Angeles, the USC Trojans have landed excellent recruits. On Oct. 23, that trend continued when four-star guard Elijah Weaver announced his commitment to the program.

Weaver is a top-50 recruit in the class of 2018, ranked No. 42 by ESPN and No. 35 by Rivals. He was heavily recruited across the country and received offers from UCLA, Virginia, Arizona, Louisville and other top programs.

With Jordan McLaughlin and Elijah Stewart graduating after this season, Weaver will have an opportunity to play solid minutes at both guard positions in 2018-19. The prospect of losing forwards Bennie Boatwright, Chimezie Metu and guard De’Anthony Melton to the pros will also make Weaver an important addition to Enfield’s class.

Weaver will provide the Trojans with a strong scoring guard who is able to do damage with or without the ball. Weaver has the size and athletic ability to compete at any guard position and will even allow him to be matched up against some of the smaller wings in the Pac-12. His passing ability has been impressive and makes him one of the best point guards in the country.

While Weaver can play the off-guard position, he will most likely play most of his minutes as the backup point guard behind Derryck Thornton. Weaver is clearly a major recruit that can hopefully make a name for himself in the Pac-12. For 2017-18, the Trojans are expected to be a top-25 team and with the arrival of Weaver, the future looks solid as well. Coach Enfield is certainly building something special out west with these recruits.

There was a question about how the recent FBI investigation into the USC program would affect their recruiting; however, with the exception of J’Raan Brooks de-committing, the Trojans continue to succeed. Weaver’s commitment all but solidifies 2018 as one of the Trojans’ best recruiting classes.
