One of the top players in the Class of 2019, Joey Baker, has decided to play college basketball with the Duke Blue Devils.

The Duke Blue Devils are expected to be the No. 1 team in college basketball next season, but things might be shaping up for an even brighter future, as five-star, Class of 2019 recruit Joey Baker committed to the Blue Devils via Twitter on Sunday night.

The 6’7, 195-pound forward played his high school basketball for Trinity Christian school and was offered at by schools across the East Coast, as well as Oklahoma State, Texas, and UCLA. From Fayetteville, North Carolina, it was no surprise that he decided to choose to play for one of the elite programs in the State.

Baker is the No. 13 player in the Class of 2019 according to ESPN, No. 24 player nationally by Rivals, and No. 20 overall player in the 247 Sports Composite rankings. It is of note that the 247 Sports Composite has him listed as the No. 1 player out of the State of North Carolina in the Class of 2019, while Scout has him ranked as the No. 2 behind Wendell Moore.

The 2017-18 season does not begin for just under two weeks, meaning that Baker is two years away from putting on a Duke jersey. However, his early commitment is a good sign for the Blue Devils, who will now focus on recruiting to other positions for that season.

Remember, Baker is just the first Duke recruit for the Class of 2019, so we can expect more to join him as the 2019-20 season draws near.
