Other highlights of the conference’s games on Friday

  • George Mason (1-0) fended off Lafayette (0-1) 67-65 as the Patriots got two big stops down the stretch.  Junior Justin Grier led the way for Mason with 17 points and a game-high nine caroms while sophomore Justin Kier had career-highs in points (15) and steals (four).
  • Head coach Mike Rhoades earned a victory in his VCU debut as the Rams blew out 94-55 victory Grambling State 94-55 in front of their 100th straight sellout crowd.

Richmond, one of the conference’s youngest teams, lost to Delaware 76-63. The Spiders didn’t start a senior, marking the first time that has occurred since 1999. UR has two seniors on its roster.

Freshman Kelly Grady made seven of Davidson’s school record 26 three-pointers as the Wildcats rolled over Charleston Southern 110-62. Grady finished with 23 points while Jon Axel Gudmundsson just missed a triple-double with a career-high 24 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. Davidson only committed one turnover, also a program best.

UMass used a late 8-0 second-half run to secure a 74-69 victory over UMass-Lowell.
