  • After two relatively easy games to open the season, Maryland received their first big test in taking on Butler at home. Obviously, the Terrapins were able to not only pass this test, but they did so with flying colors. It can be difficult to play a program as talented as Butler early in the season, but Maryland was able to rely on their hot shooting and enthusiastic crowd to carry them to a monster victory.

This game showed the all-around talent present on the entire Maryland roster. Cowan was the leading scorer and star of the game, but their other sophomores and talented freshmen stepped up when needed to provide scoring, rebounding, and energy.

For the rest of non-conference play, Maryland’s schedule is not all that difficult and they should be able to get through with relative ease. Their out-of-conference strength of schedule is expected to be fairly low and being able to notch this win over Butler is a huge step for the NCAA Tournament resume.

Since joining the Big Ten, Maryland has been incredibly consistent and that should continue once again. A trio of top sophomore leads the way for Coach Mark Turgeon.
