The first week of women’s college basketball got even more unpredictable as two ranked teams went down to unranked teams on Monday. No. 16 Marquette and No. 21 Oklahoma joined DePaul and Missouri as the ranked teams that have lost to unranked squads.

Women’s college basketball has gotten off to a fantastic start to the 2017-18 season, as several top-ranked teams have gone toe-to-toe with other ranked teams. Over the first four games of the season, four games featured ranked teams facing each other.

In all, six ranked teams suffered a loss this extended weekend, including Missouri and DePaul, both of whom dropped out of the rankings in the AP poll on Monday.

Three ranked teams were in action on Nov. 13 and two of those teams suffered losses. New Mexico (2-0) pulled the biggest upset of the night, handing Marquette (0-1) its first loss of the season in dramatic fashion 88-87

Trailing 87-85, Jaisa Nunn converted a three-point play to give the Lobos the lead with 1.8 seconds left. Nunn earned the trip to the foul line after grabbing an offensive rebound over the Eagles’ Natisha Hiedeman, who fouled Nunn.

Marquette’s Allaiza Brockton’s long three-point attempt at the buzzer was off target.

Nunn finished with a school-record 38 points as she made 14-of-15 shots. She was 11-of-13 from the foul line and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. Nunn had 20 of UNM’s 44 second-half points. Freshman Jasmine Smith added 17 points.

Brockton had 20 points to go along with seven points and five assists. In the meantime, Danielle King contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

The victory was UNM’s first over a ranked opponent since 2010 when the Lobos upended No. 25 SMU.

No. 4 South Carolina (2-0) was the lone ranked team to earn a victory on Monday, holding off a fierce comeback by No. 15 Maryland (94-86).
