2017 Maui Jim Maui Invitational breakdown
The Maui Jim Maui Invitational kicked off an action-packed week of college basketball. Columnist Peyton Wesner reveals what stood out from the action inside Lahaina Civic Center.
12 games, 58 hours, 1 champion.
In a rematch of two 2015 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen teams, No. 13 Notre Dame rallied from a 16-point deficit to remain unbeaten and defeat No. 6 Wichita State in a heavyweight battle to conclude the 2017 Maui Jim Maui Invitational. The Fighting Irish, led by a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds by AP All-American Bonzie Colson, outscored the Shockers 38-29 in the paint, which spurred the ACC representative to their second consecutive early season tournament championship.
However, not only did Mike Brey’s squad stand out this week in Hawaii; rather, other storylines will follow the competing teams to the mainland for their remaining nonconference schedules and pursuit for a national championship.
College basketball columnist Peyton Wesner discusses the major implications from the Lahaina Civic Center.
