Big Ten Basketball: Power ranking the conference (Nov. 26-Dec. 3)
With Big Ten basketball play having started, many questions were answered while many are still up in the air. Now, where does each Big Ten team stack up?
Because the Big Ten tournament will begin a week earlier than usual this season, conference play began very early. The first conference games began this past Friday (Dec. 2) and will continue through Dec. 5th before taking a break until later in the season.
The conference season began with a bang, as there were numerous close and exciting games. Although it is not ideal to begin conference play this early, some teams really benefitted from these quality games. Others, however, were not so lucky.
Still, the issue still surrounding the Big Ten is whether or not it will return as many teams to the NCAA Tournament as in years past. As of right now, this does not seem likely.
In the latest AP top-25 rankings, Michigan State sat in the top five at No. 3. Minnesota fell to the No. 14 ranked team after their loss to Miami while Purdue reentered the rankings at No. 21 after their impressive week. No other Big Ten teams received votes this week.
Based on the beginning of conference play, as well as the results of the Big Ten/ACC challenge (which the ACC won handily), let’s take a look at how each Big Ten team ranks during this week’s power rankings.
