Big East basketball is one of the deepest leagues in the country. With that being said, there is little separation between the teams ranked in the middle.

With half of the conference season complete, the Big East still looks like one of the nation’s best conferences. St. John’s may be a disappointment at the bottom but the top of the league is truly elite. With several teams in the middle competing for NCAA Tournament bids, every single game matters.

At this point, it looks like six Big East teams in the dance would be the minimum. With the way Providence has risen in the past two weeks, seven seems very possible. The conference is in great shape in terms of total bids and the number of teams that have second-weekend (or more) potential. The Big 12 and the ACC get a lot of hype, and rightfully so, but the Big East should be just behind them.
