With another week passing, check out the latest edition of Bracketology. The projected field has shifted and a new No. 1 seed has been crowned.

This week exhibited more surprising results in the world of college basketball. In what was quite possibly the biggest upset of the season so far, St. John’s, who is still winless in Big East play, knocked off Duke at Madison Square Garden. Of course, Duke was not the only top team to drop a game over the past week. One of the other teams looking to secure a spot on the No. 1 seed line, Kansas, also took a crucial loss that pushed them off of that line this week.

Considering Villanova, Virginia, and Purdue all went undefeated over the past week, they remain on the top line in this edition of Bracketology. These three squads are lengthening the gap between them and the rest of the country with every week that passes. Each of these teams could drop a game in the next week and still remain on the top line. They are just that far ahead at this point.

With this being said, the fourth and final No. 1 seed was up for grabs this week thanks to losses by Duke and Kansas. There were several teams in consideration for this final space, including Xavier, Auburn, and Clemson, among others. Who got that top spot and will they be able to hold onto it?

So far, it seems like receiving the last No. 1 seed in my bracket is a curse that ends in that team losing within the next seven days. So, whoever it is should be on the toes. Let’s take a look at my projected field from this week while highlighting a team from each region.

*Note: There is no bubble analysis in this week’s projected field. Stay tuned for later in the week when I drop my full analysis of the field and those competing for bids. In this first edition of my bubble watch for the season, I will break down the resume of every single team in consideration for the field.*
