1. There is still hope to win the AAC

After today’s win, Wichita State is just one game back of Cincinnati in the race for the regular-season AAC title. Because of this result, the race is much tighter than it was just a few days ago. The most important part of the remaining schedule for these two teams is that their second matchup against one another will come on the Shockers’ home floor.

This second game between the Shockers and the Bearcats will come in the last game of the regular season for both teams. Assuming both teams win their next three games (no easy task), then that season finale will decide the fate of the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. If Cincinnati wins, they would have a two-game advantage at the top over Wichita State. If the Shockers win, though, they would tie with the Bearcats while holding the tiebreaker for their head-to-head results.

The only other contender for the AAC title is Houston. The Cougars also have four games left on their schedule but none of them come against the other top two teams. While the frontrunners may be Wichita State and Cincinnati, Houston could be a team to sneak into the thick of the race.

Still, for the time being, this win by Wichita State gave them a very good chance of taking the top seed in the conference tournament.
