NCAA Basketball: 3 most significant active players in Yahoo! report
3. Collin Sexton, Alabama
The case of Collin Sexton is one of the more intriguing ones among the active players named in the Yahoo! report. Not only is he a surefire one-and-done player, but he’s also already faced a suspension as a result of the same FBI inquiry, missing the season opener.
Again, there are no immediate plans to bench the freshman based on his ties to the FBI inquiry. Crimson Tide coach Avery Johnson anticipates that Sexton will play against Arkansas on Saturday.
The allegations against the Sexton family are also not as serious as some other players named in the report. An issue involving meal payment with an agent is at the heart of his appearance in the documents.
Sexton is the best player to suit up for the Crimson Tide in some time. He’s averaging 18.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He’s the sole reason Alabama remains on the NCAA Tournament bubble, with a 17-11 record and wins over Auburn and Tennessee.
Including Saturday’s contest, the Crimson Tide play three more times until the start of the SEC Tournament. If Alabama is to have a fighting shot at making the NCAA Tournament, they will need Sexton on the court for the duration of the season.
