The Colorado State Rams are in the market for a new head coach. Who are the potential candidates for the opening?

Larry Eustachy agreed to resign from his post on Monday afternoon, according to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). He will not leave empty-handed; he’ll receive $750,000 in three installments over the next couple of years.

Colorado State was investigating Eustachy for the treatment of his players after allegations of abuse. Those investigations remain incomplete.

Earlier in his six-year tenure with the Rams, Eustachy was found to have been abusive. Yet he remained in his position, drawing the ire of fans and players.

All this to say, the relationship between Eustachy and the Rams frayed beyond repair this season. It’s not a bad program overall, though. They most recently made the NCAA Tournament in 2013, which followed a trip in 2012; the 2013 trip even brought a first-round victory after an upset of Missouri.

Under the right coach, the Rams should contend for Mountain West titles and NCAA Tournament berths.

For now, the team will be led by an interim coach, Jase Herl. He is 1-3 since taking over the head coaching duties this month, but has no prior head coaching experience. He’ll get a shot at getting the permanent job, but the Rams administration may be more interested in cleaning house and starting over.

Provided Herl doesn’t receive the full-time job after the season, here are three candidates to lead the next chapter of Colorado State Rams basketball.
