How have the Colonials been playing as of late?
It’s not March, but madness has started early in Northeastern Conference. After losing both regular-season matchups against the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers by a combined 44 points, the Colonials shocked the Mountaineers 60-56 in the opening round of conference tournament play. Holding Junior Robinson to 33% shooting from the field and beyond the arc, the Colonials played possibly their best game defensively while getting eighteen points and nine rebounds from Matty McConnell. The Robert Morris Colonials are playing their best basketball at exactly the perfect moment.
How have the Seahawks been playing?
The Wagner Seahawks played like they deserved to be the number one seed in the Northeastern Conference Tournament on Wednesday night. The Seahawks toppled the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils by twelve points, which is a big improvement from their two-point win over the Blue Devils last week. The Seahawks were able to get four of their players in double figures while holding the Blue Devils third-leading scorer, Deion Bute, scoreless.
Player To Watch
Ramone Saunders has been absolutely unstoppable in his last two outings for the NEC’s top seed. Averaging seventeen points and thirteen rebounds in his last two outings, Saunders only weakness seems to be foul trouble. Receiving three fouls each in his last two games, Saunders will need to be careful if he hopes to continue to be an impact player in the NEC tournament.
Matchup to Watch
Wagner’s Blake Morris and Robert Morris’s Leondre Washington have put a combined 71 points from off the bench in their two regular-season matchups. The two 6’1 guards will provide much-needed offensive firepower for their respective squads. Best of all, the two are underclassmen, so we will be seeing them in NEC tournaments to come.
