Notre Dame Basketball: Fighting Irish 2018 NCAA Tournament chances live to see another day
It looked like Notre Dame was heading to the NIT in the first half of the game against Virginia Tech. But the Luck of the Irish came alive in the second half, keeping their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
Notre Dame came out of the gates sluggish in the first half much as they did in their first-round game against Pittsburgh.
Notre Dame simply could not get shots to fall early on shooting just 25% in the first half.
Star Bonzie Colson also started cold in only his third game back adding two points one 1-10 shooting in the first half.
In the second-half, there was a monumental shift in momentum.
Much like the previous two ACC tournament games today, we saw teams attempt to overcome massive double-digit deficits.
Notre Dame saw their second-half deficit grow to as many as twenty-one points before a scoring drought-plagued Virginia Tech.
The Hokies had a period of over six minutes where they were unable to get a basket to fall.
But the major turning point was a technical foul called on the Hokies Chris Clarke for pushing Matt Farrell out-of-bounds.
The Irish took the lead once and for all with 1:50 left on a Colson banked three as the shot clock expired
Where does this leave the Irish moving forward?
With an RPI currently sitting at seventy and bad losses against Ball St. and Georgia Tech to name a few, Notre Dame is going to need to do some more resume padding.
They are currently in the “Next Four Out” category in our Bracketology and a win against Duke tomorrow still might not be enough.
The Irish will face the Blue Devils tomorrow at 7 PM.
Next: Taking a look at Notre Dame's NCAA Tournament resume
I don’t put too much stock into the Blue Devils twenty-two point victory over the Irish earlier this season as the Irish are a completely different team without Bonzie Colson.
This win boosted Notre Dame’s chances without a doubt, but they’ll be riding the fringe of the bubble moving forward.
