Providence Friars

Even though Providence was not able to pull through in overtime against the elite Villanova Wildcats, they are more confident that they have been all season. After an overtime win over a likely #1 seed Xavier Musketeers, the improbable run for the Friars through the Big East tournament will improve their seeding and give a lot of fans reason to make them their Cinderella pick this year.

But not so fast. Sure, their conference tournament run was nice, but it was brief. The only really impressive wins the Friars were able to pull off was over Creighton and Xavier. While they may have momentum at the moment, this is the same team who lost to DePaul at home by 17 points in February. They also only have one win over a tournament caliber team prior to last week.

So fans should take care as to how much they allow momentum to sway their decisions when filling out brackets. It may be helpful for a team when they come into the big dance on a roll, but they still need to have what it takes to win tournament games if they are to get anywhere beyond the first weekend.
