Why They Won’t: The Field

The biggest reason why Gonzaga won’t make the Final Four, is the same for pretty much every other team in the NCAA Tournament – the field. With 16 teams in each region, a team must win four, or five, games in a row to make it to the Final Four.

Winning four straight games under pressure is tough under normal circumstances, but with the NCAA Tournament hosting only the most deserving teams, even the best teams can fall victim to a poor performance.

While the West Region is considered by most to be weakest, the field will always be a better bet than any individual team. Whether it is Ohio State, Xavier, UNC or someone else, the Zags are more likely to fall in the first to weekends than they are to make it to San Antonio.
