Reason 2: Experience

Ohio State has not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2014-15. The Jackrabbits have played in every NCAA Tournament since 2015-’16. Not only that, but South Dakota State has retained almost every player from each of those three teams. Daum,  King, Reed Tellinghuisen and Skyler Flatten have all played in multiple tournaments. On the other hand, the only Buckeyes on the roster in their last tournament appearance are Jae’Sean Tate, Keita Bates-Diop, and Kam Williams.

That is not to say that the Buckeyes have zero experience because Tate and Bates-Diop are their two best players. However, every steady contributor for South Dakota State outside of David Jenkins Jr. and Brandon Key has played in an NCAA Tournament. The same cannot be said for Ohio State.

Believe it or not, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits have more recent NCAA Tournament experience than the Ohio State Buckeyes. Swallow that fact and understand that experience helps in March.
