Will the Tide limit their turnovers?

Alabama can thrive in a fast paced game, but they also turn the ball over too frequently. They averaged over 14 turnovers per game which is a lot. If they turn the ball over this many times versus the Hokies, it will be difficult for them to overcome. Virginia Tech is also comfortable playing at a chaotic pace so an up-tempo game won’t necessarily favor the Tide.

Protecting the ball and valuing each offensive possession will be essential for Alabama. As a result, the Tide will benefit from slowing the tempo and playing a halfcourt game. Allowing Sexton to create in isolation plays and relying on the stellar team defense is the Tide’s recipe for success.

Limiting turnovers is an obvious point of emphasis though it can be tough to control as a game progresses. Nerves and sloppiness are typical early in elimination games. Alabama’s best way to achieve this is likely to secure defensive rebounds and walk the ball up court unless an easy transition opportunity exists. If the Tide slow the pace and force the Hokies to defend for the entire shot clock, they can definitely grind out a win.

Rebounding is a key element to controlling the pace of the game, which is a perfect segue to my final question.
