Jalen McDaniels

One of the keys to most successful NCAA Tournament teams, strong interior forwards can be the difference, especially if they win the rebounding battle. While Malik Pope is listed as the Aztecs’ tallest starter, freshman forward Jalen McDaniels has been their strongest force on the boards.

McDaniels has not always asserted himself as an interior threat, but remains one of the Aztecs most efficient scorers, especially around the basket. He shoots 59.8% from the field and 79.2% from the line so stopping him when he is attacking the rim is not an easy task.

With the pressure mounting, McDaniels will have to step up his game even more.

While Rooks began the season as the fifth starter, McDaniels’ high intensity and incredible athleticism quickly earned him that spot. If he can maintain his composure and find a way to compete with the height of teams like Michigan and North Carolina, he and Pope will a be a frontcourt to be reckoned with.
