St. Bonaventure Basketball: How do the Bonnies match up with Florida?
Capitalize on 3-point shots
The play around the perimeter will be vital for St. Bonaventure to pull off the upset. On the season, the Bonnies’ are one of the better 3-point shooting teams in the country. They have connected on 37.3% of those shots on the year. Most notably, Jaylen Adams is one of the best shooters in college basketball. During this season, the senior attempted just over six 3-pointers per game, burying them at a 44.4% clip.
Florida is a hard team to gauge in terms of their perimeter defense. The Gators allow their opponents to shoot a fair amount of their shots from behind the arc but do a solid job closing out. On the season, Florida’s opponents have shot 35.1% from three. When St. Bonaventure gets good looks from three in this game, they need to take advantage. Thankfully, the best scorers on the Bonnies are all above-average shooters from deep so it is not asking too much for them to each hit a couple of trifectas.
On the other end of the floor, St. Bonaventure’s perimeter defense needs to stay as locked in as it has been all season. Even though Bonnies’ opponents this season have shot 40.2% of their total shots from behind the arc, they are only shooting 32.1% on those attempts. Also, let’s not forget that the Atlantic 10 is a fairly good shooting league. St. Bonaventure may not play in a major conference but their opponents are adept and bombing from deep. This is, however, just more evidence of the Bonnies’ excellent 3-point defense. (Statistics found via T-Rank)
