March Madness: Top players from the Elite 8 teams
Loyola-Chicago Ramblers
JR Clayton Custer, Guard
2017-18 stats: 13.4 ppg 2.2 rpg 4.2 apg
After starting out his career at Iowa State, Custer made the move to the Ramblers. This season he was awarded the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year after leading the regular-season champions in both scoring and assists.
He’s a very efficient player from the perimeter, shooting over 50% from the field for the year and 66% in the three games played so far in the Big Dance. Custer hit the game-winning shot to beat Tennessee and looks to continue his heroics against Kansas State.
Kansas State Wildcats
JR Barry Brown, Guard
2017-18 stats: 16.0 ppg 3.2 rpg 3.3 apg
In his first two seasons, Brown was a mere role player for a Wildcats team that was looking for a go-to scorer. The emergency for the junior came from the injury to their starting point guard. It forced him to take more shots and create for himself and others, and it worked for all involved.
And in the NCAA Tournament, he’s had to step up again, this time in place of Dean Wade, the All-Big 12 forward for the team. He’s lead Kansas State once again in scoring, and it the reason why they’re still alive right now.
