Kansas Basketball: How the Jayhawks reached the Final Four
The Kansas Jayhawks have made it to the Final Four for the first time since 2012, going through the most difficult path possible. How did they manage to survive the entire season to get here?
The biggest game of the 2018 NCAA Tournament happened on Sunday when Kansas faced Duke, with a spot in the Final Four on the line. It took an extra five minutes, but the Jayhawks pulled through.
It seems poetic that at least one team from the Big 12 will be represented in the last weekend of the college basketball season, after the great basketball that conference displayed throughout.
Kansas has been one of, if not the best basketball program of the last 30 years, with a 29 season streak of participating in March Madness. An even more impressive feat that continued as well this year was their 14-year streak of winning the Big 12 regular season title, although it was in doubt this time.
The Jayhawks have three national titles, which some critics will argue is less than what they should have, considering the number of times they got a very high seed in the Big Dance. Coach Bill Self has one to his name from 2008 and has been one of the best coaches in the sport.
Although this team was ranked in the top-five to start out, there were issues with the roster. And with some teams and players coming out of nowhere to become threats in the Big 12, streaks were truly in jeopardy this year. But like every other year they persevered, and here’s how they did it.
