March Madness: Who were the MVP’s of each Final Four team?
Few players meant to their team this tournament what Moritz Wagner meant to Michigan. The junior and native of Germany was the emotional leader for the Wolverines both on the floor and on the bench, and had some talent to boot.
Wagner was in double figures throughout the tournament as well, and also served as the dominant presence in the middle physically which sparked Michigan’s offense at the right times and gave them a lift defensively when they needed it as well. A strong post player on the offensive side and an elite rebounder on both sides, Wagner led the Wolverines through the first four rounds, even though they struggled at times.
Ultimately, Michigan went as Wagner went. When they were desperate for points, Wagner hadn’t been getting enough touches. When he got it going in the second half of the Loyola game, Michigan was unstoppable.
The junior now has a decision to make, as he is appealing to many NBA teams without a doubt, but also has a chance to come back to Michigan and lead them to another final four. Either way, this big man meant everything to this Michigan run, and was clearly their MVP.
