Now that the 2018 NCAA tournament is complete, here is a look back at the most compelling games of march madness for college basketball fans.
From UMBC’s historic upset of Virginia to Loyola’s unexpected run to San Antonio, this year’s NCAA tournament was one for the history books. So many games captivated fans as teams battled to advance and eventually to reach their ultimate goals, the final four and a national title.
Games that weren’t supposed to be close at all came down to the wire, and matchups which seemed to favor one direction went completely to the other. Sure, the tournament may have culminated in a final four in San Antonio featuring three power house programs and a school which had captured the hearts of so many basketball fans, but the games leading up to the final four which helped shape it were the most compelling.
Choosing just five games this tournament that were most thrilling is no small task. Loyola themselves had three. Three more went to overtime. Two top seeds lost in the first weekend. There was so much excitement throughout this tournament, five memorable moments don’t do it justice.
