Duke vs. Kansas (Elite Eight)

The only region in which both the top seed and second seeded teams advanced to the regional final was in the midwest. The final spot in San Antonio came down to Duke and Kansas, who played their elite eight game in Omaha.

In an overtime thriller, Kansas came away victorious. But the intrigue of this game came from the dramatic swings and lead changes throughout, and how it could have easily gone the other way. Grayson Allen’s shot at the buzzer rimmed out for the Blue Devils, who could have won the game in regulation. Instead, they went to overtime, which in and of itself swung in the direction of both teams several times. But in the end, it was the Jayhawks who overcame Duke in this thrilling contest.

This game was a thriller for fans who paid close attention to the second weekend. It was the perfect way to end the regional rounds, as they themselves had plenty of intrigue throughout. While upsets and unexpected matchups were what these rounds mostly consisted of, this game was the exception. In a tournament like this which ended up being so bizarre, and old-fashioned clash between two power houses like Duke and Kansas was welcomed, especially since the game couldn’t have been any tighter.
