Purdue Basketball: 2017-18 grades for the Boilermakers

Carsen Edwards (A+) – 18.5 Pts, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists

Boog.

Holy cow. Where to begin with this one…

Edwards breakout 2017-18 campaign featured electric moments that kept your eyes glued to your television. He averaged a team-high 18.5 points per game, while shooting 40.6 percent from three-point land. Bananas.

In addition, with his All-American nod, Edwards and Caleb Swanigan have given Purdue basketball back-to-back sophomore All-American players.

Edwards’ standout year was mostly due in part to him playing alongside four seniors who could take some of the pressure off him. Now, especially with all the notoriety, he will be the focal point of every game plan next season. I, for one, am very curious how he’ll handle that transition.

We know Edwards is a scorer and that is what he’ll look to do first, but time will tell how he’ll fare as a passer and defender. If he can improve in those two areas, it might make the difference in Purdue being a fringe top-25 team to a force and potential contender next March.

Also, don’t read into the “Carsen to the NBA” headlines. He’ll be back and ready to lead what looks to be a pretty young, yet talented group. So for all you out there that are stressing out, Edwards has a message for you:
